Imagine The Impact You Can Make

Imagine the impact you could create by working closely with a member of your community with a disability- someone whose family or friends may already be your customers or clients.    It’s a gratifying way to give back to your community by giving of yourself – something only you can do.

Perhaps you are already familiar with Best Buddies Maryland or maybe this is your first time on our site. Here is a very brief history. The organization was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989.  Best Buddies International is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that is working to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabiliites.

Since 1995, Best Buddies has been working to end social isolation for Marylanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities through our friendship programs for both youth and adults. Currently, Best Buddies Maryland operates chapters in more than 80 middle schools, high schools, and colleges in 18 Maryland counties, serving more than 3,200 residents.

In September, I became the new State Director for Best Buddies Maryland.  In my short time as State Director, I have had the pleasure of hearing many inspirational stories about Best Buddies. Truly, this organization has helped change lives and its positive impact has been felt by so many.

Today, Best Buddies stands at unique and exciting chapter in our history.  Our first 20 years is coming to a close and our next 20 years have never looked so promising.

These are exciting times for Best Buddies Maryland.  In addition to our dedicated and talented staff, we are putting together a high-impact Advisory Board, opening our first regional office in Southern Maryland and building top-flight events and event committees.  We as a staff stand ready to seize this moment and most of all we are relentless in our pursuit.

We can only get there with your help. We are only as strong as the support we receive from compassionate and caring individuals in the community.    Your help will give hope and friendship to the 20,000 people in Maryland with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

How can you help? Volunteer to become a Citizens or e-Buddy; lend your time and talent and join one of our event committees. Perhaps you or someone else you know would be able to serve on our statewide Advisory Board. There are many ways for you to make a difference.

Thank you for visiting our website.  You can make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.   Please call me at 410-327-9812, ext. 28 or email me at vincefiduccia@bestbuddies.org if you are ready to help.  Together, we can change the world one friendship at a time.
